bluesky is based on an open protocol, so even if the app and the site was to vanish, other apps based on atproto can still access it, for example blacksky.community/profile/techconnectify.bsky.social witchsky.app/profile/techconnectify.bsky.social reddwarf.app/profile/techconnectify.bsky.social

you can also easily move accounts to new servers if you’re unhappy with Bluesky. or you can just keep your account where it is and log on different apps, like Blacksky.community or reddwarf.app to keep on Bluesky-ing without the bluesky. Pretty nifty. This is why the outage earlier didn’t affect me.

It costs as low as $5 to run the atproto (not Bluesky) relay. Yes, an AppView that has a full text index of microblog posts optimized for search for 43M accounts is going to cost some money. It still costs less than Hachyderm costs. The network works without those features. Use @reddwarf.app

I was online for a good bit of yesterday, with some hiccups. I used a mix of blacksky.community and reddwarf.app and hung out on stream.place. my account is on selfhosted.social. there were hiccups early in the outage as devs worked live to remove some remaining bluesky deps they hadn't yet.

Why not invest in solutions that don't require a costly centralized AppView instead? Like platforms that offer native at:// protocol support? Lack of time is the only thing preventing us to get an adaptation of reddwarf.app as a purely static site.

The main bottleneck is usually the AppView, that is, the service that collects information like "who are the other people who have liked a post" & the main following feed. Services like reddwarf.app have to be explicitly designed to avoid relying on it. Not that it's impossible tho.

they did, I and many others were able to post uninterrupted because we either wrote records ourselves to our PDS or, on the drop-in replace side, used blacksky.community and reddwarf.app to log into our existing account.

The ongoing Bluesky outage only affects the Bluesky app. If you use reddwarf.app for instance, you can still microblog on the app.bsky lexicon. I used Sifa, Tangled, and Semble today and zero problems there.

Weil Du Bluesky als Frontend benutzt (oder wie auch immer sich das nennt). reddwarf.app ist unabhängig von der Infrastruktur von Bluesky. Zugegeben, hab ich auch erst mit dem Ausfall heute herausgefunden 😆 Und ich weiß auch noch nicht, obs mir gefällt. Die Usability ist etwas anders.
